What was your biggest challenge in fiscal 2003
We worked on bringing on stream two totally new automobile dealerships and one redevelopment process required to complete these projects were very complex, costly and time-consuming. Operationally, we saw high gas prices affect the truck and SUV part of our business.
What was your most gratifying moment?
We continue to see growth opportunities in our industry and our business model. We are seeing a strong increase in repeat customers, and that is a key driver for our future growth.
What is your sense of where the B.C. economy is now?
We are well into an expansionary and inflationary part of the business cycle. Despite some of the negative economic indicators, we are optimistic about B.C.'s economy and outlook.
What B.C. leader do you most admire?
I admire Jim Pattison for being a great business success, as a competitor in the automotive business, as a visionary and philanthropist.
What do you think is the biggest misperception the public has about big business?
The biggest misconception the public has about big business is the extent of their influence and degree of power. The vast majority of B.C.'s economy is powered by small businesses and sole proprietorships. The hurdles and regulations facing large businesses are substantial and significant.
